Leitão Amaro. Communications center is a "desirable" solution

Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro acknowledged this Thursday the creation of a new structure for government communications, as reported by Observador , although he disagreed with the term "new communications center." "It describes it well, but it's a poor label," the minister summarized regarding the name of the new department currently being finalized and which will be integrated into the General Secretariat of the Government to professionalize and increase the flow of communications.
At the Council of Ministers briefing this Thursday, the minister highlighted this as a preferable solution to governments that "spend tens of millions of euros on communications agencies or on hiring to somehow assist with communications." He even stated that it is "desirable for the Portuguese State to invest in resources that serve the country's governments and not just one party in government," noting that the intention is for the new department within the General Secretariat of the Government to be sustainable.
"I prefer a government that believes that public state structures, supporting the government but separate from the government, should be equipped with technical and professional resources to ensure the task of quality and professional communication, as is the case in the European Commission" or in "more developed governments in Europe," added Leitão Amaro.
The minister highlighted that this will be a "competent service to help government officials make decisions and provide support for their decisions," as well as "measure the impact of policies," monitoring "executive action and the Government Program."
